4th SASCI Meeting
The theme of the 4th SASCI Meeting was ‘Future Fuels & Combustion Research for Energy and Environment’.
The 4th Saudi Arabian Section of the Combustion Institute (SASCI) conference was jointly organised by the Fuel Technology Team in Saudi Aramco and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and was held at KAUST on the 29th of April 2014.
The theme for this year’s SASCI meeting was ‘Future Fuels & Combustion Research for Energy and Environment’. A total number of 52 submissions were made from participants from within KSA as well as from outside. The in-kingdom submissions were distributed between KAUST (31), KFUPM (4), Saudi Aramco (4), King Khaled University (1) and Royal Commission of Yanbu Colleges and Institutes (1). The external submissions were distributed between Turkey (5), USA (3) and Egypt (3). The total number of submissions were 60% higher than last year’s meeting.
The meeting was attended by more than 100 combustion scientists. A total of 32 Oral presentations were accommodated in the three parallel sessions along the day of the event with 1.5 hours for the presentation of 20 posters. The meeting started with welcoming notes by Prof. Hong Im (KAUST) and Dr. Jihad Badra (Saudi Aramco) followed by a plenary talk by Prof. Charlie Westbrook, Lawrence Livermore National Lab. (LLNL) who stressed on the methodology of generating chemical kinetics mechanisms and how improvements are needed in addressing these methodologies. The rest of the presentations were divided onto 6 sessions entitled,
o Fundamental combustion modeling
o Applied combustion modeling
o Applied experimental combustion
o Fundamental experimental combustion
o Turbulent combustion
o Novel combustion technologies
